Spray-paint application

PREFABOND composite panels can be spray-painted. A standard air-drying acrylic or two-component polyurethane coating can be used for this purpose. To accelerate the drying process, kiln-drying at maximum 70 °C is possible.

  • Depending on the properties of the paint used for spray painting, lightening of the paint or cracks and flaking may become visible in the areas in which the panel has been bent. Therefore, we recommend bending the elements before applying the spray paint.
  • Roughen the existing coating with sandpaper used for car bodies (600 to 800 grit). An orbital sander is suitable for this.
  • Then remove any dust and grease stains from the surface with an air gun and solvent.
  • Only paint the visible surface of the PREFABOND aluminium composite panel, not the cut edges as these points need to retain optimal adhesion.

Self-adhesive decorative films and labels

  • Before glueing, make sure that the surfaces to be treated are free of dust and grease stains.
  • The ambient temperature and temperature of the substrate material must correspond to the temperature specified by the manufacturer for each type of film. During application, make sure that the temperature does not fall below 4 °C.
  • Special care should be taken after removing the backing and protective film.
  • Apply the self-adhesive film with the aid of a squeegee. When doing so, sweep away from the centre towards the edges to counteract the formation of any air bubbles.
  • To complete the application of the film, carefully prick any air bubbles created during application with a needle and push out the air with your thumb or the squeegee.
