Midi-Pyrénées Observatory: Reference objects

Introduction

The Midi-Pyrénées Observatory is located at an altitude of 2,877 metres above sea level. The summit is well detached from the Pyrenees mountain range, which means the site offers great observation opportunities.

The extension and renovation work on the observatory began in mid-2021. Due to the difficult conditions on-site, the construction work could only be carried out in the summer months, which is why it took more than three years to complete.

PREFALZ in the colour P.10 pure white was chosen for the new façade. Due to the strict specifications and the extreme conditions in the high mountains, only a few materials were considered. In the end, the advantages of PREFALZ were convincing:

  • weather-resistant
  • corrosion-resistant
  • low-maintenance
  • easy to install
  • low weight, which was not unimportant for the transport by helicopter.
