The PREFARENZEN 2026 have been chosen: Discourse meets architecture & design:
The PREFARENZEN expert dialogue took place once again in a winegrower's residence in Seewinkel, Burgenland. A jury of experts from the fields of architecture, media and PREFA came together to select the twelve most exciting projects for the PREFARENZEN architecture book and the 2026 calendar. It was an intense exchange about design, context and the social mission of contemporary architecture. One idea that shaped many of the discussions was the desire to live differently. The longing for places that offer peace and quiet and a sense of community, as retreats from the fast pace of everyday life.

A source of inspiration for everyone
‘The result is colourful, diverse and international,’ said Jürgen Jungmair, Head of International Marketing at PREFA, summing up the selection process. ‘It shows the internationality of PREFA and also the journey that the PREFARENZEN are intended to take, namely to carry diversity out into the world and make it known.’ Judit Nemere, Managing Director of PREFA Hungary, sees the architecture platform as a valuable source of inspiration: ‘PREFARENZEN are very important across borders throughout Europe. Architects, fabricators and builders alike have the opportunity to be inspired. Internally at PREFA, we also see where architecture is heading and what the new paths and trends are.’

A colourful mix of bold roof designs
Architectural consultant and coach Matthias Finkentey moderated the expert dialogue and was delighted with the open and respectful exchange: ‘Listening is the driving force behind innovation, and those present presented their opinions concisely and precisely.’ Architect Thomas Schlett from B3 Architekten also praised the process: "I was surprised at how quickly we came together as a jury team. We didn't always agree, but the final consensus led to a good result.‘
The diversity of the submitted projects impressed Sven Disser, Head of Development at Bauwerk: ’It was a colourful mix. The roof designs of the individual properties were particularly eye-catching, always with skilful use of PREFA products, of course."

History, context and passion
For jury member Selina Wach, Head of Discourse at Architektur Aktuell, context and honesty were key: ‘It's important to me that the projects are honest, that they are needed and that we take the current crises into account in their design.’ She sees particular potential for new, forward-looking forms of cohabitation in conversions, urban redensification and intergenerational living. ‘How do we want to live together, in what constellations?’
Architect Dirk Lorenz from Leinert Lorenz agreed, emphasising the importance of context: ‘The decisive factor is how well a building integrates into its surroundings, both in terms of the landscape and society.’ For his partner Falk Leinert, one thing was clear: ‘Architecture leaves its mark, both in space and in life. We build buildings that have to stand the test of time. That requires passion for the profession. At the same time, we want to inspire people with extraordinary projects and stimulate discussion.’
