Skalnate Pleso observatory: Reference objects
Introduction
On 19 September 1943, the first astronomical observation of the sun took place in the observatory on Skalnaty Pleso at 1,783m above sea level.
In 2022, the listed building was extensively renovated. As part of the renovation work, the main roof of the observatory, the roof of the extension for the diesel generator as well as the domes and parts of the façade were clad with PREFALZ in the colour metallic silver.
Aluminium was chosen as the material for several reasons. The material had to be able to withstand extreme weather conditions as well as being environmentally friendly, rust-free, and lightweight. The 40-year guarantee was a convincing factor as well.
