Krušné hory holiday home: Reference objects
Introduction
David Zámečník, one of the two founders of NEW HOW architects who work primarily in Prague, went back to square one in 2018, demolishing an old house in a complicated location. Thus began the very personal story of a new holiday home in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Erz Mountains in Czechia, a story of the area of Nové Hamry, of building childhood dreams and of the colour Neuhammer grey.
Zámečník took the colour for the façade of his house from nature. ‘In Nové Hamry, known as Neuhammer bei Karlsbad in German, you can find every facet of dark grey,’ he says. You could even call it ‘Neuhammer grey’. It can be found in the shade of the trees, in the granite and basalt rock of the foothills of the Erz Mountains, and in the dark green needles and trunks of the spruce trees that make up a typical Erz forest.
Right from the beginning, the plan was to cover the façade and the roof of the holiday home with aluminium in a similarly dark colour, in this case PREFALZ P.10 anthracite. The embossed stucco finish also adds a structured surface reminiscent of black oiled wood and slow-growing spruce bark. But colour and surface textures are not the only things that make the house noteworthy.
